Electrifying the Ambulance Sector

Updated: Aug 26, 2021

GSM Finance Ltd has once again proved their knack for funding innovative assets for UK ambulance companies. GSM successfully sourced funding for the HATS Group allowing them to add the UK’s first fully-electric ambulance to their fleet of ambulances and special needs patient transport vehicles.

With the funding from GSM Finance, The HATS Group purchased a Renault Master Z.E. equipped complete with the latest battery technology, allowing for an extensive range of 95 miles (City cycle) between charges, a top speed of 75 mph and a current re-charge time of 4 hours – charging point dependent. The new vehicle joined HATS during February 2021 as part of its 800 strong vehicle, multi-service fleet.

The new fully Electric Ambulance is the first of its kind to be built for the private ambulance sector in the UK, setting the standard moving forward for all new Electric Ambulances and is part of a broader range of initiatives that The HATS Group are undertaking, aimed at considerably reducing their carbon footprint, especially in London where it is the biggest provider of transport services in its field, supporting many NHS Hospital Trusts and working with 29 of the Capital’s 32 Local Authorities.

The HATS Group is at the forefront of developing Ambulance technology with its partner, conversion specialist, Blue Light Services Specialist Vehicles (BLSSV) through the company’s unique construction method, ensuring the Ambulances that it develops are the lightest and most technologically advanced in service, anywhere in the world. With the development of this new vehicle, both companies have taken a major step forward in reducing their impact on the environment, as well as positioning themselves at the forefront of this emerging sector and technology: with the global demand for widespread zero-emission transport set to rapidly increase over the coming years.

The introduction of this new vehicle will allow The HATS Group to not only transport patients and passengers safely and comfortably, but it will also benefit everyone - especially Londoners, given that it is extremely quiet and creates zero carbon emissions. Put simply, everyone stands to benefit, their customers, patients, their business and of course the environment.

GSM’s Head of Ambulance and Medical Equipment Finance, Roger Wood, stated “We are delighted to have assisted The HATS Group with the funding of the new Renault Master Z.E fully electric ambulance. We used our extensive knowledge of the private ambulance sector backed by our tier 1 lenders (Wesleyan Bank) to fund the first of its class in the UK. We look forward to welcoming more electric vehicles to the road to help support a new cleaner greener environment”
